Realistic Mathematics Approach in Improving the Ability to Recognize Simple Plane Figures for Second Grade Students with Hearing Impairment at SLBN S Cicendo Bandung
Abstract
The hard of hearing will have an impact on the low ability of students with hearing impairment to abstract the concept of space, including recognizing the plane figures. The understanding of students with hearing impairment about the concept of space is very important to be developed, therefore a learning approach is needed so that students with hearing impairment can recognize simple plan figures. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of a realistic mathematical approach in improving the ability to recognize simple plane figures for second grade students with hearing impairment at SLBN Cicendo Bandung. The research method used is an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The research design used is one group pretest-posttest, which is an experiment that is carried out in one group only without a comparison group or a single group design, by providing a preliminary test and a final test to the research sample. The data is collected through written and action-direct tests. Based on the results of research and hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that a realistic mathematical approach can improve the ability of students with hearing impairment to recognize plane figures. This can be seen from the hypothesis testing which shows that a realistic approach provides an increasement in the ability to recognize plan figures. The results of the research can be used as a reference for teachers in teaching and learning activities to apply this realistic mathematics approach to other learning topics and materials. For future researchers, it is hoped that this realistic mathematical approach can be applied to different research subjects.
